It was wear red, white and blue while torturing a loaf day at DB Manor! I am back home in Toronto now and Josh is just about to land in Denver (sniff!) but I was jazzed to catch some hang time with a bunch of pretty great people before heading out. I miss them already. Also, Pony is way softer than I imagined! I think she liked me even tho I don’t know dog.

I’ve written several scripts for Lonely Lisagor’s Sandwich Video but this one for Summly was probably the most daunting. I not only had to put words in the mouth of Nick D’Aloisio, the hyperarticulate 17-year-old creator of the app, but also Stephen Goddamn Fry, all-around genius.

So I spelled everything British-y and used words like “drivel” and hoped for the best. I think it turned out well, and Adam & Co. did a bang-up job as always. I’m super thankful to be able to work with them.

It’s amazing what can happen when two handsome fellows put their big bearded brains together. I am super proud of Josh and love seeing the stuff he’s worked on with Adam come to light. Well done, gentle men.

Fireland: Fellow Mortals

My friend Dennis is kind of infuriating. He’s smart and funny. He’s a good husband and father. He gets up early to work out. He’s really into boxing and Baroque music. He makes furniture. He grows giant pumpkins in his yard at a competitive level. He’s basically a man, which is gross.

Angela Black awarded herself Best Girlf Ever for this gift but I must admit she did indeed nail that shizz.

She met the infuriatingly talented (and nice — barf) Scott C. at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and had him sign and doodle on his rad new book (made out to “Good Bro Joshy”) and this Twin Peaks print which depicts one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite things of all time.

It is tanfastic. Gaze upon it in the eerie light of constantly-on-fire Colorado.

I won’t pretend to be the biggest Twin Peaks fan and only just watched the series because I knew Joshy was kookoo for it but as soon as I saw this and that it was called Considering the J’s… I knew it had to be his. It’s one of my favourite scenes in the whole show. On my last day in Denver, I got it matted, framed and hung perfectly on the wall! (Josh helped too, whatevs.) So yeah, GIRLF OF THE YEARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I pretty much suck at giving presents so I am milking this one for all it’s worth.

Let’s make faces in front of the rocky mountains. Sure. Why not. So, we went up to Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday. When we set out for the day there was just the one MASSIVE fire eating up a portion of sky in the space to the left of our heads. It is the very biggest plume of smoke I have ever seen in my life but not near enough for us to be in harm’s way or for them to close the park. By the time we got home there were 8 fires total throughout the state including the one we narrowly avoided by taking a wrong turn near Estes Park that burned 20 cabins to the ground. Kinda crazy and scary how quickly they start and get out of hand. I swear it is not my fault. Still, I would not be me if I did not mention that I saw the most amazing marmot (he is amazing because he decided to run around where I could watch him for a good long while) and a handful of MAJESTIC elk hanging out by the side of the road. They were beautiful and golden auburn with furry antler stumps! Oh and I shattered my iphone screen to pieces cos I got excited about seeing some chipmunks. All in all, I am still marking it in the win column because I am getting to spend time with my bearded sweetheart, seeing some animals and taking a big breather before I do all the work required to sell my home in early fall. In the meantime, I will wish for a break in the 100 degree (fahrenheit) temperatures and some rain.

I cannot stop giggling at this photo. When Jason and Beth asked me to hop in with them to head to CHSH, I said okay! instantly because yay friendship. I love Chicago, I love my pals that live there and I was eager to meet some faces I hadn’t hugged enough or in real life before. (I gotta admit that Jon Deal gives some good squeeze.) Knowing that Chicago is pretty much smackdab in the middle of Toronto and Denver, I asked this bearded nerdface if he’d be up for joining us and was more than pleased when he said yes. He’s kind of my favourite. I know he’s a big deal and has funny completely locked up but he is also the kindest, most generous and gracious person I know. I would have fun no matter what… but it was a whole other special thing to see his face again. I loved that so many people enjoyed meeting him but was especially happy for Josh to get to know a few dorkpantses that mean the world to me. Thanks to the folks who organized CHSH and gave us extra incentive to pull friendly but faroff faces together once again. Mwah.
